1. Site Selection:

4. Planting:
- Ginger comes in different varieties like IISR-Mahima, IISR-Varada and IISR-Rejatha etc. Plant the ginger rhizomes in furrows or pits at a depth of about 5 to 7 cm, with the eyes facing upward. Low calcium soil with pH of 6 to 7 is suitable.
- 1 ton ginger rhizomes is required for planting.
- Space the rhizomes about 20 to 25 cm apart in rows, leaving around 30 to 35 cm between rows.
5. Watering:
- Provide regular and sufficient irrigation to keep the soil consistently moist. Avoid waterlogging, as ginger is susceptible to root rot.
6. Mulching:
- Apply a layer of organic mulch, such as straw or dried leaves, around the ginger plants to retain moisture, control weeds, and improve soil health.
7. Fertilization:
- Apply well-rotted compost or farmyard manure at the time of planting.
- Provide additional fertilizer applications during the growing season, especially during the active growth phase.

- Ginger can be harvested around 8 to 10 months after planting, once the leaves start turning yellow and drying up.
- Carefully dig out the ginger rhizomes using a fork or spade, being gentle to avoid damaging the delicate rhizomes.
10. Profit: with 20 ton yield per acre and Rs 30 per kg rate, you can make 6 lakh per year. If you consider, 2 lakh cost, net profit will be 4 lakhs per acre. on 24 July 2023, minimum ginger rate at Pune APMC was Rs. 50 per kg. So you could have made Rs. 10 Lakh per acre and by deducting cost of 3 lakhs, you still have profit of 7 Lakhs which is massive.
